What is Ames Strength?
Ames Strength Club is the first and only USA Weightlifting (USAW) sanctioned club in Ames, Iowa. The mission of Ames Strength is to make athletes become better Olympic lifters. More specifically, ASC aims to improve athletes’ strength and efficacy in the two Olympic lifts – the clean and jerk and the snatch. We work with clients ages 10 (ten) and up to train strength, explosiveness, and coordination. Please read OUR BLOG

Weightlifting, when done under proper supervision and with professional programming, is extremely beneficial to people of all ages – and not just for athletes, but for the general population as well. Olympic lifting has a greater impact on the cardiovascular system than many other forms of weightlifting, it utilizes the entire body in every lift and therefore works an incredible amount of muscles, and for this reason as well you get a great workout relatively quickly. Not to mention it is incredibly beautiful, enthralling, challenging, and fun. Olympic weightlifting is great way to improve ones athletic performance, but it is challenging. It is technical and takes practice. By putting in the work we guarantee you anyone can get better.
Ames Strength Club is a great compliment to CrossFit just as much as it is a great program on its own. By focusing on these major lifts and performing them more frequently than you see them in CrossFit, you will see incredible gains rather quickly.
What to Expect
Programming is done on an individual basis. There is no template or one size fits all for lifters. What works for one lifter may not for another. We look at what each person’s weaknesses are and work on them until they are a strength. If the snatch is a weak lift for an individual, then we will program more exercises to help improve this particular lift.

- 11:00 – 12:00 (Monday – Friday)
- 12:00 – 1:00 (Monday – Friday)
- 1:00 – 2:00 (Monday – Thursday)
- 5:00 – 6:00 (Monday – Tuesday)
- 6:00 – 7:00 (Monday – Tuesday)
- 12:00 – 1:00 (Saturday – Sunday)
Memberships & Pricing
We currently offer 2 or 3 days/week membership options. If you are a CrossFit West Ames member, you must select the 2 days/week option. Sessions are one hour in length.
